Obe’s Jukebox #11 – Sonic Adventure 2 – City Escape

Yeah, the picture is from Generations, but all of the other pictures I could find were ugly.

The Sonic games have always had stellar music. Examples include Chemical Plant Zone, Casino Night Zone, Ice Cap Zone, and pretty much everything sung by Crush 40, the band who did a great deal of work for the series. While it’d be pretty hard to choose which game has my favorite soundtrack, I’d have to settle on Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast (or the port onto the Gamecube, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle) for the fast paced rock music and unexpected rap music on Knuckles’ levels. One of my favorites, which is the highlight in this post, is City Escape.

Track Name: City Escape

Game: Sonic Adventure 2 (2001)

System: SEGA Dreamcast

Composer: Jun Senoue

For a level that starts off with you snowboarding down the city streets on helicopter debris, they sure made a good track to go with it. SEGA managed to make a song about Sonic escaping the law have a lighthearted feel to it, like Sonic himself. One of my favorite tracks in the game along with one of my favorite levels, I spent many a while here grinding for animals to use for my Chao, and I certainly didn’t mute the TV. Granted the lyrics are now forever burned into my mind, but hey, small side effects. eh?
