The final two fighters being added to the already expansive Super smash Bros for 3DS/Wii U have been announced today. Corrin, the customizable main character from the latest Fire Emblem game, Fire Emblem: Fates, and the semen demon Bayonetta from the aptly named Bayonetta series were both confirmed today during what was the final announcement of new smash Bros 3DS/Wii U content.
Now I know what some of you may be thinking. “ANOTHER fucking Fire Emblem representative? Jesus fucking Christ.” Yes, I share the same feelings. We don’t need another Fire emblem rep, especially one added for marketing purposes, but seeing Corrin in action lead me to think that Corrin’s style might make for a great addition to the roster. Although Corrin wields a sword, his/her main method of fighting is shapeshifting into their dragon form, called a Manakete in the Fire Emblem universe, making for a more interesting addition than Lucina or Roy, who are based off of Marth.
Personally, I think Marth, Ike, Robin, and Corrin themselves would’ve made for a diversified Fire Emblem roster without being excessive or unoriginal, but delusional Roy fans and even more delusional Lucina fans will still fight for their justifiable inclusions.
Now the other newcomer, Bayonetta, is simply fucking awesome. Bayonetta was proven to be the most achievable and universally voted for character in the Smash ballots hosted earlier this year. While her reveal first filled me with the dread of a possible Kid Icarus character, the thoughts quickly changed to good ones.
With her combo-focused gameplay, Bayonetta looks like she’d be a breath of fresh air to many matches, especially the ones that have stagnated to bland “down throw to followup” matches. Plus she’s sexy as hell and stylish as fuck, with butterflies, roses, and bullet casings flying off of her all the time. Definitely a cool inclusion to me.
If you’re interested in the entire announcement featuring in depth looks at Corrin, Bayonetta, and the previously announced Cloud Strife, you can watch it below. Cloud has even been announced to be purchasable and playable starting today.
While seemingly ending with a bang, I’m slightly saddened by the finalization of the Smash trailers. Sakurai’s crazy train has stopped at the final station, leaving new character reveals a thing of the past. oh well, it was exciting while it lasted. Let’s hope Sakurai doesn’t try to jump the bus and decides to design another Smash game in the future.
